Russian forces are deliberately shelling the Kherson Regional Museum of Local History. As a result of the attacks, approximately one-third of the museum building has already been destroyed — a unique repository of the history and cultural memory of southern Ukraine.

Over the past three weeks, the occupying forces have systematically targeted the museum, despite its clear status as a civilian and cultural institution. The destruction appears to be intentional and ongoing.

The museum’s staff has appealed to the international community, urging all possible measures to prevent further damage to historical and cultural sites in Kherson.

Museum representatives emphasize that during the period of temporary occupation, thousands of unique artifacts — invaluable witnesses to Ukrainian history and culture — were stolen from the museum’s collections.
“The destruction of the museum is not accidental; it is part of a systematic policy of cultural terror,” the museum stated.

The ongoing damage to the Kherson Regional Museum of Local History is another stark example of the deliberate destruction of Ukraine’s cultural heritage as a result of Russian aggression.
