Mobile digital laboratory

The Agency for Cultural Resilience and partners have launched the Mobile Digital Lab (MOCEL) project.

The purpose of the Mobile Cultural Emergency Lab (MOCEL) is to help Ukrainian museums digitize the most valuable and threatened part of their collections and records.

Digitization not only opens up additional opportunities for museums to preserve, study, and present their collections, but also becomes a duty, especially in the context of the targeted destruction and theft of our cultural property by the Russians.

Obviously, high-quality digitization requires expensive equipment and relevant skills, which is currently unaffordable for most Ukrainian museums. We have repeatedly received requests from them for such assistance.

So, in response to these requests, thanks to our international partners Cultural Emergency Response, ALIPH Foundation, and the Dutch archive Nationaal Archief, we have selected the necessary equipment for digitizing documents, easel paintings, bulk and small plastic, negatives, and other items that fill museum collections and archives. We lend this equipment to museums for a certain period of time, provide training, and then the museums digitize their priority items and documents.

The project is aimed at small museums and museums from more threatened areas.
