Russian forces attacked the village of Lyfyne in Ukraine’s Sumy region. As a result of drone strikes, a local architectural heritage site — the Khrushchov estate — was hit.

A fire broke out at the impact site. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties. However, the historic building sustained significant damage.

The Khrushchov estate is considered one of the most distinctive architectural landmarks of the Sumy region and features elements of French Neo-Renaissance style. In June 1859, the estate was visited by Taras Shevchenko, who admired the beauty of its garden and surrounding landscape.

Architect and urbanist Ihor Tytarenko emphasized the importance of preserving and stabilizing the remaining structure for future restoration.
“This monument was of high value. The building has an underground section with a small tunnel. The photographs show that the carved wooden decorations that once adorned the façades and interiors have been completely lost. However, the stone framework remains, which makes future restoration possible,” he noted.

The Khrushchov estate in Lyfyne was built in the late 18th century. Initially, the hamlet belonged to an osaul (a senior Cossack military rank) named Alfyorov. Later, the property was inherited by his family, and in the first half of the 19th century it passed to landowner Dmytro Khrushchov, known for his liberal views and for freeing some of his serfs prior to the abolition of serfdom.
